In the early 90s, with the right combination of talent, vibe, and musical vision, Mitch, Bill, Matt, Julio and Mark became the core sound of The Rangers — an original country rock band of well-seasoned musicians who went on to share amphitheater stages with, among others, Tim McGraw, Kenny Chesney, Trisha Yearwood, Alabama, Billy Ray Cyrus, Sawyer Brown, Mark Chestnutt, Hal Ketchum, Marty Stuart, and Wynonna. The list is as long as it was validating of the band’s ability to deliver concert-level performances as a solid, professional opening act.
Over a ten-year period additional players and instruments were added and subtracted, mixed and matched, and performances by some remarkably gifted musicians were captured on two self-produced CDs, the first titled simply The Rangers, the second, Tried and True.
The band continued performing their brand of early-90s country music well into the millennium until, by 2010, a new generation of marketable country artists had stepped up to redefine the country music sound. Gradually, The Rangers lost interest in coming together only a few times a year to play “the same old songs” until, in 2015, they decided to disband.
They would each find ways of staying musically active, but something was missing. That “something” turned out to be the energy and good vibes generated when well-loved songs are well-played by a great band. It was out of their collective desire to preserve loyal friendships and channel years of musical experience into something uniquely satisfying and meaningful that this core group of music brothers decided to reunite as The Sky Kings.
Mitch Ballard, Bill Walsh, Matt Twain, Julio Reyes and Mark Mathias have once again set an intention to deliver concert-level performances of some best-loved American-made songs, and invite you and your community to join us for an uplifting musical experience.
